What is Slothful Induction?
Refusing to accept or believe a likely conclusion despite strong supporting evidence.
Business Application
Whether facing one’s own faults or uncovering the root of behavioral issues as a manager, it is easier to accept a weaker explanation over a more likely (and more serious) cause. It is important to pry deeper into the dismissal and continue to ask questions in order to expose a truer rationale.
Example
Premise –“Your numbers have been falling and it seems like you’ve been getting more frustrated with work lately. Are you having trouble with your workload?”
Fallacy -I just keep meeting complete morons lately. It’s just a bad streak. Don’t worry, I’m sure things will turn around soon.
Why This is a Fallacy
Your client can still leave even if you lower their prices.
