What is Argument from Incredulity?
Assuming something cannot be true because you cannot understand how it would be possible.
Business Application
Dismissing concepts or opportunities because you do not understand them is a surefire way to stay basic. Beware the double-edged sword of following advice that sounds too good to be true, but recognize and focus on deconstructing a claim to independently weigh its validity.
Example 1
“There’s no possible way that an average person could be a millionaire from blogging. They’re probably lying about their success.“
Why This is a Fallacy
Instead of trying to figure out the mechanics of being a millionaire blogger, this claim generalizes the blogging industry.
Example 2
“Growing a company so rapidly over time is impossible without a huge investment in infrastructure. There’s no way my company could do that without hundreds of thousands of dollars.”
Why This is a Fallacy
Making an assessment based on ones own experience can go too far if other potential methods are completely disregarded.
