What is Appeal to Flattery?
Using compliments and praises in order to cloud judgement.
Business Application
Flattery is a remarkable method of influence. Its effects can be very powerful even if the person receiving the flattery is aware of its application. But don’t pay any mind to that, you beautiful reader.
Example 1
“You’re a smart person so I know you’ll see that working with me is a no-brainer.“
Why This is a Fallacy
Someone who is called smart may not want to disappoint. If being smart means doing the ‘smart’ thing, it motivates action.
Example 2
“Pretty women deserve nice things. This diamond pendant suits you so well.”
Why This is a Fallacy
People make remarkable purchases if it may suggest they will become more attractive as a result.
